UPDATE: Panic in Igbogbo – Ikorodu as search continues for killers of resident

Residents of Offin community in the Igogbo – Ikorodu end of Lagos Mainland were thrown into confusion following the killing of a pastor resident in the area identified as Victor Kanayo.

Kanayo, who was murdered in his home by his assailants suspected to be members of the Badoo gang was before his death, a pastor Redeemed Christian Church of God mission, Fingers of God Parish.

Recall that InsideMainland earlier reported how residents of the community discovered the lifeless remains of the deceased with his head smashed with two big stones by his killers, an indication that the killing might be connected to the dreaded Badoo gang.

Following the discovery of the incident, residents of the area have been thrown into panic mood. This was as a result of the fear that anyone might be the next target of the unknown killer group, InsideMainland learnt.

Speaking to InsideMainland, a resident of the area said: “There has been peace in Offin and Ikorodu as a whole for a long time now. This situation has brought fear the area. Some people are already having fears of staying in their homes.”

Narrating the situation of things in the community over the night, the source said: “I couldn’t sleep well. I held vigil to keep my family and younger ones safe even though the Police came for another round of patrol before leaving the area during the night.

“I am happy that my aged mum is not home. If not, I can imagine what would have happened or how she would have reacted to the news of the murder of the pastor.”

Another source said that residents had more fear as no one could ascertain if the heinous crime was perpetrated by the dreaded Badoo group that once terrorized the entire Ikorodu community, Lagos Mainland, or another gang.

“It is more worrisome for us here because no one can really explain those behind the killing. Although there were indications that it might be related to Badoo, we can’t really conclude because there are also insinuations that the pastor might be connected to a gang in the past,” the source said.

“We just don’t want to return to the days of horror where no one can sleep in their homes. We want peace and sound sleep in our houses. The government should act on this because it is almost the end of the year where more people would even return to spend time back home with their relatives,” the source added.

Meanwhile, InsideMainland gathered from members of the Onyabo Vigilante Group that investigation is ongoing on the incident. “We were at the area today and everyone was going about their businesses. Investigation is ongoing and some arrests have also been made by the Police,” a member of the group told InsideMainland.

More so, the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, SP Chike Oti, while commenting on the incident said the Command has made a couple of arrests and that the suspects are being questioned with a view to discover the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

Oti added that State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has “dispatched a team of crack detectives to unravel those behind the murder; dig into the past of the victim and see if there is a correlation between his past and his fate.”

“The issue of his past before he became a born again Christian is of interest to the police because of a human skull tattoo drawn on his left arm which gives the victim away as one who may have belonged to any of the dreaded cult groups,” he concluded.
