Do you use UberX to commute around Lagos? You need to see this

Months after announcing a slash in price for using their platform, transport company, Uber, has announced new fares for uberX in Lagos.

According to the transport company, the decision to announce the new rates is in connection with the numerous traffic challenges and the need to put an end to the challenges faced by the driver-partners.

In a statement issued by Uber and obtained by InsideMainland, the company said: “We all know that Lagos is a city like no other. While there are so many things that make our city great, we cannot deny the challenges that traffic and congestion present in the city.

“Through numerous partner feedback sessions, we have learned that traffic represents one of the biggest challenges that driver-partners face.”

Uber continued saying: “As a result of this feedback, we are changing our fare structure to ensure that driver-partners are compensated for the time spent in traffic.

“Whilst the per minute fare is increasing, Uber remains one of the most affordable ways to get around your city, offering one of the lowest per km rates around.”

Meanwhile, the company said the decision would ensure “more driver-partners will look to Uber as an earning opportunity, helping to make Uber more reliable for you and your loved ones.”

As a result of the fare increase, users of UberX can expect fares to be calculated as follows:

Route                                          Old Fare                          New Fare

Surulere to Victoria Island             ₦1,600                            ₦1,900

Victoria Island to Ikeja                  ₦2,800                            ₦3,500

Lekki Phase 1 to Ikoyi                   ₦900                               ₦1,100
