Ikorodu community in the Lagos Mainland area of the state was agog over the weekend as the handlers of the annual Ikorodu Oga Festival kick-started activities for the 2017 edition of the event.
Residents of the gathered at the Ikorodu Town Hall on Saturday, November 11, 2017, to officially commence the annual celebration with the ‘Woro’ traditional walk which took place round the community. The walk according to the organizers is aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the kingdom.
The walk witnessed the participation of different groups such as the Osugbo, Awo-Opa, Igunnuko, Koori, ASA, Orusen, among many others.
The ‘Woro’ Carnival ended at the Ayangburen of Ikorodu’s Palace, Oba Kabir Shotobi with a cultural display by traditionalists to entertain guests present.
Speaking on this year’s event, the Chairman of Ikorodu Development Association (IKODASS), Otunba Olusegun Abiru, said the indigenes of Ikorodu to remain resolute and also take the advantage of the festival to promote the cultural values of the town.
He added that the indigenes should not to relent towards the agitation for development of community while urging everyone present to embrace peaceful coexistence.
Meanwhile the weeklong event billed to culminate in grand style with the annual Ikorodu Oga party on Saturday, November 25, 2017, continues with different activities lined up to ensure participants have a splendid time.
