Troubled times? Former Lagos Deputy Speaker forfeits Ikeja GRA home to government

For the lawmaker representing Mushin Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Funmilayo Tejuosho, the last 24 hours might not be the best of times.

This is as a result of the alleged ‘forceful’ eviction of occupants at her residence located at 3, Sasegbon Street, GRA, Ikeja. The eviction according to reports was carried out by security agents attached to Lagos State Government over the weekend.

It was gathered that the said property was assigned to Hon. Tejuosho during her tenure as the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of  Assembly. However, following her impeachment, Hon. Tejuosho rather than vacate the premises acquired the property and converted it into her private residence.

Hon. Tejuosho reportedly acquired the building in the name of her company during the Babatunde Raji Fashola administration in Lagos.

According to Independent, the decision by the lawmaker to acquire the property has deprived Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun- Sanni the incumbent Deputy Speaker of an official residence as he currently resides in his private residence at Moshood Abiola Gardens, Ikeja.

It was also gathered that the forceful eviction of the lawmaker from the palatial home is part of the plans by the Lagos State Government to recover properties that were under-valued and allegedly sold illegally.

According to reports, the lawmaker isn’t the only person affected as more than 100 properties acquired by highly placed persons in Ikeja GRA, Ikoyi, Magodo, Lekki and Victoria Island among others would be recovered by the government.

The decision InsideMainland learnt was after a panel of inquiry set by the government to look into the sale of the assets 2006 and 2016 submitted its report.

Meanwhile, information reaching InsideMainland has it that Policemen are at the lawmaker’s residence in Ikeja GRA, Lagos Mainland, breaking down doors and other items.

According to Society Now, the lawmaker’s properties are been destroyed in the process with the security officials reportedly firing tear gas to break down resistance.

It was also reported that the officers at the same time are disconnecting electricity supply to the house.

More updates to follow.
