Ikorodu Federal lawmaker celebrates one year of fight against hunger

In celebration of the World Food Day, the lawmaker representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Babajimi Benson marked the one year of uninterrupted monthly distribution of Apo Aanu (Mercy Bags) to the elderly, widows and vulnerable in Ikorodu Division #iCareFoodBank.

The project, ran through the lawmaker’s #iCareFoundation commenced in October 2016 in commemoration of the World Food Day with a monthly donation of food ration to elderly residents in the Constituency.

Speaking on the milestone, Hon. Babajimi Benson said “my sincere appreciation goes all APC Leaders and party faithfuls who took time out to join us in the drive to have zero hunger in our society. Nobody should for any reason go hungry.

“We desire to carry everyone along in our administration and we feel our food bank initiative is a conceptual way to make this happen. The food bank is aimed at reducing extreme hunger among the elderly ones, women, widows, and the needy who are constituents of Ikorodu Division.”

In addition, Hon. Benson in May 2017 increased the number of beneficiaries from the food ration from 300 to 700. However, beneficiaries at the one year event crossed the 1,000 mark with the lawmaker stressing that the figure was achieved in partnership with other organisations in Ikorodu Division.

The event had in attendance religious leaders, royal fathers, party members, community development association leaders, and other dignitaries from Ikorodu, Ijede, Isiu, and Imota communities respectively.
