Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company is extorting us, Oshodi residents cry out

For every consumer, there has to be satisfaction derived for money exchanged for a service or product. However, this has not been the case between Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) and residents of Oshodi and Mafoluku communities.

It was gathered that abnormal estimated bills, irrational disconnection of electricity and collection of illegal and illegitimate charges among others by the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) led to a street protest recently by the residents of Oshodi and Mafoluku to seek end to the problem.

According to the Chairman, Oshodi Articulate Residence, Monday Alfred, residents have complained on various occasion about the estimated billing to the IKEDC head office Ikeja, Okota branch and Oshodi office, for the past three years, but nothing has been done.

“We have been clamouring for prepaid meters for more than three years, IKEDC promised to distribute to us but we are yet to be given till date, they have been extorting money from us,” he said.

Alfred emphasized that the electricity consumed estimated bill IKEDC charges Oshodi-Mafoluku residents is too outrageous; adding that prepaid meters should be given to residents.
