Ikeja Virtual Market brings hope for Lagos Artisans

The Lagos State government has announced plans to set up a virtual market platform for artisans registered with Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment. Speaking during a two day sensitisation programme, Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr Babatunde Durosimi- Etti, explained that the platform would make business transactions between artisans and prospective clients convenient, even taking their on a global level.

He stated that the platform will complement the efforts of artisans by helping them attract adequate patronage and create opportunity to network business ideas.

Durosimi advised the artisans to remain updated on advancements in their various vocations as their services and skills would henceforth be assessed by the world’s standard.

The Commissioner said the ministry was compiling a compendium of registered artisans in the state to increase the Gross Domestic Product of the state and hence, artisans registered through the platform would also have access to finance from the State Employment Trust Fund.

Mrs Taiwo Abiose, Head of Entrepreneurship in the ministry said the government considered it expedient to standardise the operations of artisans to meet up with what is obtained in other developed region.

Also present at the event was the president of Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans.
