The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode rekindled the hope of senior citizens in Lagos state, stating that his administration is committed to prioritizing their welfare to put smiles on their faces.
Speaking yesterday, Tuesday, October 4, 2017, in commemoration of the 2017 International Day of Older Persons held at the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa- Ikeja, Ambode promised to ensure the continued elders’ welfare support in the state, including the prompt payment of pensions and provision of home for the elders among many others.
The governor who spoke through his deputy, Dr Idiat Adebule called on families to ensure their elders do not suffer, stating that youths should try to pay back their elderly parents for the sacrifices made during their active age.
Ambode who also congratulated all older persons in the state for the significant celebration, urged them to continue to promote unity and peace in the state. He added that: “The future we all dream of is here and it requires collective efforts to counsel the coming generations in order to maintain the excellence factor the State is known for.”
“Gone are the days when older persons were seen as burden on the society, nowadays they are increasingly seen as assets and worth seeking advice from”.
