Weeks after InsideMainland reported the state of major roads across the Lagos Mainland, the Lagos State Government (LASG) through the Public Works Corporation has commenced the rehabilitation of the popular Akilo Road in Agege Local Government area.
Construction work commenced on the access road which links Agege and Ikeja communities few days ago with the work expected to be completed in no time barring natural occurrences.
Presently, works have commenced on digging and fixing of drainage channels on the road ahead of the eventual laying of fixing of large potholes and surface laying in the area.
Speaking to InsideMainland, one of the site engineers who identified himself as Mr. Thomas said “the project is not expected to take long because of the importance of the road and the number of people that use the place regularly.
“The pace of work was slowed down last week due to the torrential rainfall but we expect that things will be different in the coming days to allow us complete work here.”
Meanwhile, motorists who ply the route have expressed optimism that the decision to put the road back in shape will ease the troubles of those who use the road regularly to access their various destinations.
According to Mrs. Olaitan, “this is a step in the right direction. I expect that the construction workers will work day and night to finish the road in time to reduce the number of hours spent in navigating the road.”
Another motorist, Mr. Tiamiyu Ajisafe said the government should replicate the same move in inner roads along Agege axis to reduce traffic time and the gridlock caused by large potholes.
Recall that the Special Adviser Public Works and Drainages, Engr. Temidayo Erinle earlier disclosed that the corporation would not leave any stone unturned to ensure that it achieves a pot-hole free Lagos.
