Shock as man drowns in well in Iganmu

Residents of Adisatu Street in Sari Iganmu Local Government Area were thrown into confusion on Thursday, September 14, 2017, following the death of a man identified as, Chukwuma Ndukwe.

According to reports, the victim fell into a well and died before help could come his way.

The incident which occurred at about 2:00pm drew sympathizers who made frantic efforts to save the deceased to the scene, Daily Sun reports.

It was gathered that the family of the deceased were in their apartment when Chukwuma went behind the house, where the well was located.

“We were all inside when Chukwuma left the room and walked towards the backyard. We awaited his return but to no avail until someone screamed and we went outside only to find Ckuwuma’s slippers beside the well,” the deceased’s father said.

A resident, Uche A. Uche who commented on the incident said he was asleep when he heard loud noises from outside. He disclosed that he quickly called emergency lines to inform the authorities of the tragedy.

Uche added that he regretted that he could not reach them due to poor network but someone else was able to reach the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC).

Another resident in her narration of the incident said: “I was in my room sleeping when I heard the loud noise. I went outside only to discover that someone fell inside the well. When I asked who it was, they said it was my neighbour’s son, Chukwuma.”

Commenting on the incident, a member of the LNSC, Mr. Ajibade Idowu said members of the neighbourhood were able to bring the area under control. He added that the youths in the area hurriedly provided equipment to bring the victim out of the well.
