Over 50 electricity transformers vandalised in Oshodi

The Management of Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has decried the spike in vandalism just as it announced that over 50 transformers were recently vandalised in the Oshodi Business Unit area of the company.

The disclosure was made by the Head of Corporate Communications of the of Company, Mr. Felix Ofulue who stressed that vandalism had become the biggest threat to power supply.

Ofulue also noted that two persons, who were arrested last month by the Nigeria Service Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for vandalism of transformers belonging to IKEDC, had been sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour.

The convicts, Mayowa Adedoyin and Yemi Aina, were arraigned at the Federal High Court in Lagos, before Honourable Justice Abdulaziz Anka.

According to him, the accused pleaded guilty and were sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.

Ofulue who expressed that he hope the decision serves as a deterrent to others commended the security agencies for rising to the occasion.

He however noted that the company would continue to prosecute vandals and all other perpetrators of criminality within its network, as prescribed by law.
