As part of the government’s commitment to upgrade all abattoirs in the state to the global standard, the Lagos State Government has constructed an ultra-modern slaughter slab at Ajegunle in the Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Oluwatoyin Suarau, disclosed this on Sunday, July 23 2017, stating that the project was a product of collaboration between the government and a private firm, Charlie Papa Limited. He said, “The collaboration between the government and the private sector has demonstrated that the private sector has a role to play in achieving the Lagos Smart City vision.”
The Commissioner explained that the structure comprised veterinary slaughter points, carcass processing tables with running water and animal skin gas burning points, among others.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner has declared the operations of butchers in the Suuru Army Signal Barraks, Robo B, Oto White Sand, Alakoto, Alaba Suuru, Itire Ajegunle, Ibafon, Wharf and Boundary areas as illegal. He warned them to stay away from the places, adding that law enforcement agents would arrest anyone who operated in the unauthorised abattoirs.
The Chief Executive Officer, Charlie Papa Limited, Mr. Lanre Bashorun, commended the government for making the private sector relevant in the development of the state.
