Another yaba school, St. Finbarr’s College, wins GTBank Masters Cup trophy

The GTBank Masters Cup season ended in a grand style as the long sports rivalry between St Finbarr’s college, Akoka and Anwar Ul Islam College, Agege was revived at the finals of the 2017 GTBank Master Cup (season 5) which held yesterday at the Onikan Stadium.

The Agege team were at the receiving end of two first half strikes from St. Finbarr’s through Augustin Ikechukwu and Tijani Rafiu. A late second half goal from Sodiq Giwa via the penalty spot ensured the game finished tensely but it did not help Anwar Ul Islam College avoid defeat in the finals as their counterparts from Akoka emerged victorious with a 2 -1 win.

The game was witnessed by representatives of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the sponsors, GTBank and the members of the old students Association of both schools and their families. Among the old students of St Finbarr ‘s College was Patrick Doyle, a veteran Nollywood actor while former Super Eagle coach Tunde Disu and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro were there to support their alma mater, Anwar Ul Islam College

Recall that in the girls’ category, Queens College defeated Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls High School 2-0 to retain the GTBank Masters Cup for the 5th time in an exciting encounter at the Onikan Stadium.
