Modion Communications, one of Nigeria’s fast growing Public Relations and Communications solutions providing agency, has been named ‘Outstanding Young PR agency of the Year’ at the 2017 edition of the Marketing Edge Brands & Advertising Excellence Awards, on Friday June 17, 2017, in Lagos.
Marketing Edge is a leading media platform that provides insights into happenings and developments within the brands, marketing and advertising industries in Nigeria. It organises an annual Brands & Advertising Excellence Awards to celebrate agencies, brands, media personalities and media establishments and the marketing communications industry. One of the categories is dedicated to celebrating young agencies in Public Relations (PR), Media Independence, Digital Marketing and Advertising.
Modion Communications was singled out as Nigeria’s ‘Outstanding Young PR agency of the Year’ 2017 for its creativity, market dominance and penetration in spite of the prevalent economic recession in the country. The 2016 edition of this highly coveted category was awarded to Red Media, run by Chude Jideonwo and Adebola Williams.
Speaking on the achievement, the Chief Executive Officer of Modion Communications, Mr. Odion Aleobua, said the award is a testament to the agency’s audacious and resilient drive to set new trends in public relations and marketing communications solutions industry. “We may be young but we’ve already touched brands that are way older. In 2016, Modion Communications successfully organised one of the largest oil and gas conferences in Nigeria for the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA). Modion Communications was founded in 2015 by Odion Aleobua, who is the chief executive officer. Odion’s experience spans the oil and gas, financial services and journalism.
He started his career as a Business Correspondent at TELL Magazine, Nigeria’s most respected news journal and proceeded to manage media and public relations for Industrial and General Insurance PLC (IGI).
Odion joined Oando PLC in 2007, sub-Saharan Africa’s leading indigenous integrated energy group, as a Marketing Communications Executive and worked in various communications roles, such as marketing communications, public relations, media engagement, internal communications & change management.
He spearheaded media management and PR for the entire Oando PLC Group, and was responsible for the B2B communications planning and support for Oando Gas & Power – Oando’s subsidiary which pipes natural gas to 80-% of industries in Nigeria. He was also a key member of the Oando PLC Crisis Management Team.
Mr. Aleobua left Oando PLC in 2013 to head the Brands & Corporate Communications unit at Forte Oil PLC. He executed the rebranding of the company from African Petroleum and product re-launch of one of the industry’s leading lubricant brands – Super V and Visco 2000 into the market. He also conceptualized and activated a pan-Nigerian engagement with mechanics – the lubricant market’s most influential stakeholders.
Odion studied Mass Communications at the University of Lagos, where he graduated with a second class upper bachelors’ degree. He is also a certified member of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR); the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
