In order to keep the surrounding clean within Yaba axis, the sole Administrator of Yaba Local Government Area (LCDA), Mr. Bayo Adefuye, has promised to ensure that all parts of the council are free from refuse and dirt.
This was disclosed while leading a mop-up exercise to sensitize residents on a cleaner environment during the rainy season to mark the World Environment Day.
He noted that the cancellation of the monthly sanitation programme by the state government does not give room for residents to be nonchalant about their surroundings, adding that ‘Operation Cleaner Lagos’ is meant for people to keep their surroundings healthy and habitable and reduce the incidence of flooding during the rainy season.
According to the council boss, meetings have been held with Community Development Associations (CDAs), market leaders and other stakeholders to ensure that roads, streets and drainage are kept clean.
“Our Environmental Health officers have been told to go from street to street, house to house, market to market to preach the gospel of a clean environment,” he said.
He then appealed to the residents to stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse along Herbert Macaulay way, UNILAG junction, Atan Cemetry, Akoka Road, Queen’s college road and other black spots in the area.
