LASG to redevelop Agboyi-ketu, allays fears of demolition

The Lagos State Government, on Monday, May 8 2017 declared that the new master plan for the Agboyi-Ketu area is ready with other development plans.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Rafiu Anifowoshe, said the plan included the ongoing expansion of some streets, assuring residents that demolition for the expansion would be done with a human face.

The commissioner, who spoke alongside the Acting Commissioner for Transportation, Anofiu Elegushi, at a stakeholders’ forum explained that the government plans to brief residents regularly on projects in the area.

“For instance, we are starting Alapere Traffic Improvement and Management Phase II. We are assuring you that there will be minimal demolitions as part of the support efforts to bringing development to your area.  The initial effort of our contractor, which failed, led to this forum. A new master plan for Agboyi-Ketu is ready and is being implemented.” He said

Also the acting commissioner for transportation, Elegushi stated that the road projects would see Oluwakemi Street and some adjacent streets developed into four-lane roads from Alapere to Agboyi and would take traffic from Alapere through Agboyi towards Ikorodu.

He also called on the community to partner the government to ensure quick completion of the project.

A community leader, Joseph Evra, urged  the government to put a human face to the project by ensuring prompt compensation for those that would be affected by the demolition.
