Amid the academic crisis rocking the Lagos State Polytechnic campuses in Lagos State, the students of the institution have emerged victorious at the just concluded Nigeria Polytechnic Games 2017.
The Polytechnic games in its 19th edition was tagged “Nasarawa 2017” and it held at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Nasarawa State.
During the games, the LASPOTECH team won a total of 47 medals which includes of 16 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze medals. The medal haul at the tourney ensured the institution emerged the overall winner of the NIPOGA 2017 event.
The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti finished in second position with 15 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, defending champions, Yaba College of Technology, (YABATECH), who had won the competition on more than ten occasions settled for third position with 10 gold, 13 silver and 14 bronze medals.
The host institution, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria and The Polytechnic, Ibadan, however finished in fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
InsideMainland learnt that the games which is highly contested by the competing institutions saw the participation of no fewer than 4,000 athletes from 41 Polytechnics.
The games which commenced on Saturday, April 29, 2017 came to an end on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
