Black Thursday as LASG pulls down Sabo Market-Ikorodu

Shop owners and other traders at the old stalls in the usually busy Sabo Market, Ikorodu, were seen wailing today, Thursday, May 4, 2017, after they arrived their stalls to discover that the Lagos State Government had demolished the market.

The shop owners were left in shock after the government officials pulled down their place of business with bulldozers while they were left to battle to save what was left.

It was learnt that the stall owners were notified of the plans by the government to demolish the market two weeks ago. Also, the market leaders we gathered approached the government towards finding a resolution.

According to Kunle Shobo of Black Box Nigeria, “the arrangement by the Akinwunmi Ambode led government promised the shop owners to demolish the old market and erect a new one. However, the conclusion is yet to be reached as the cost of a new structure is way too much for the common man who trade in the market.”

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the stall owners in the market visited the State Secretariat yesterday, May 3, 2017, for a meeting with top government officials.

Kunle Shobo stated that “the meeting involved the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Adebule, a Commissioner and top government officials.”

The market leaders who held the meeting with the government were however left in shock following the discovery that the market has been demolished.

Furthermore, the newly built stalls in the market were not touched by the officials who executed the demolition exercise.
