Amuwo-Odofin PDP lawmaker educates market women, street hawkers on LASG Environmental Law

While Mainlanders and other Lagos residents struggle with understanding the Lagos State Environmental Protection & Management Law, the lawmaker representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency I in the Lagos State house of Assembly, Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu, has taken a bold step towards educating his constituents about the dangers of the law.

Earlier today, Hon. Olorunrinu took time to address issues concerning the environment in Amuwo Odofin after he made visits to some unapproved ‘markets’ in the area.

Speaking during the visit, the lawmaker urged residents, shop owners, street hawkers and road side sellers to stop patronizing unapproved sellers or street hawkers.

Hon. Dipo who was flanked by officials from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) during the visit said “you see KAI here with me, it is not to oppress anybody but it is to maintain sanity in the environment. Rain has started, gutters are getting blocked due to poor waste disposal inside. Please let’s keep our environment clean or KAI will arrest you.”

While citing the recent arrest of six people by the officials of Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps Agency on April 11, 2017, Hon. Dipo pleaded with residents to dispose waste in proper bins and not canals, gutters or suckaways. Also, he warned the residents against waste burning waste while assuring residents that the cleaner Lagos Initiative will improve waste management generally.
