1000 armed men plan to attack us; Magodo residents raise alarm

Residents of Magodo Estate, in the Isheri end of Lagos State have called on the government to come to their aid over a planned invasion of the estate by more than 1,000 armed men.

The invasion is part of the moves to enforce a warrant of possession in respect of a court judgment obtained by one Adebayo Adeyiga and others against the Lagos State Government.

Punch reported that information gathered by the Association showed that more than 1,000 armed men and hoodlums are preparing to invade the estate.

The president of Magodo Resident Association, Kunle Eludire told Punch that the armed men plan to invade estate with bulldozers to demolish any property soonest. “The case had been lingering for about three decades and it was instituted by one Chief Adebayo Adeyiga on behalf of members of the Shangisha Landlords Association in 1988.”

Eludire said the court had declared that members of the Shangisha Association, whose land and buildings were demolished by the Lagos State Government between June 1984 and May 1985, be given first choice preferential treatment by the state government in the allocation of 549 plots of land in the Shangisha village.

He added that residents of the estate were not parties to the case and that the judgment was given against the Lagos State Government and not residents of Magodo Phase II.

Furthermore, Eludire said the residents had written letters to the Lagos State Government and other relevant agencies asking for their intervention but got no response.

Corroborating the president’s story, the legal adviser to the association, Mr Akin Adepoju, said the warrant of possession was flawed because the group had not been allocated any land or property within Magodo Phase II.
