MFM FC thrashes El-Kanemi Warriors in presence of Super Eagles boss

Lagos based side, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Football Club, MFM FC returned to the top in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) standings after thrashing visiting side El – Kanemi Warriors 3 nil at the Agege Township Stadium, today, Sunday, April 9, 2017.

The side made seven changes to the team that lost to Nasarawa United last weekend and the Olukoya boys lived up to expectations with a big win in front of Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr who watched from the stands.

The hosts wrap up the game with three goals under 25 minutes in the first half with Ogunye Austine, Olatunbosun Sikiru and NPFL leading top scorer, Stephen Odey scoring a goal each.

The first goal of the encounter was scored by Ogunye who pounced on a fierce counter attacking move orchestrated by Onuwa Chukwuka in the 20th minute of the exciting match to open the scoring off a goal-mouth scramble.

Sikiru Olatunbosun doubled the lead for MFM FC seven minutes after the opener with a left-footed strike after connecting a lovely pass from Austine Ogunye who was unarguably one of the best performers in the game.

After the second goal, MFM FC dominated the encounter dictating the pace of the game with their neat passing.

In the 44th minute of the contest, an El-Kanemi player, John Aguda fouled NPFL’s top scorer, Stephen Odey inside the box with the center referee pointing to the spot for a spot kick. Odey dusted himself, wrong footed the goalkeeper to score the third and final goal of the tie.

The second 45 minutes didn’t see a lot of action from both teams. MFM FC combined well with good passage of play but the Borno-based team defenders were resolute with their defending making it difficult for the Olukoya Boys to score with timely tackles.

After completion of 90 minutes, coach Fidelis Ilechukwu tutored side secured the maximum points which propelled them to the top of the log with 33 points from 18 games played. Plateau United FC remain second on the log with 32 points from 17 games played.
