The Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, Lagos held its 25th convocation ceremony today, Thursday, March 09, 2017 amidst loud cheers from the graduands.
At the event, a total of 9,295 students graduated in the Higher National Diploma (HND) and Ordinary National Diploma (OND) levels in the last academic session with 273 graduating with Distinction. 1,223 graduated with Upper credit, 5,693 with Lower credit and 2,106 students had pass.
The event had in attendance, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode; the first of its kind since the history of civilian governance in the state – and also witnessed the presence of top dignitaries, royal fathers, clerics among others who graced the occasion.
During his remarks, Governor Ambode congratulated the graduands and also disclosed the projects his administration will embark in the institution.
The governor approved the construction of a 26,000 capacity stadium, a convocation auditorium, renovation of the sports complex, general facelift of facilities within the campus and immediate employment of best graduating student, Adedolapo AbdAzeez Ejire from the School of Pure and Applied Science.
The historic event which also marked the 40th anniversary of the institution since establishment in 1977 culminated into the launch of a surveillance drone built by students of the institution in collaboration with the International College of Aeronautic and Aviation Studies.
Speaking on this feat, the Rector of the Institution, Mr. Samuel Oluyinka Sogunro said “we have partnered with the International College of Aeronautic and Aviation Studies produce drones capable of securing the institution’s campus and the State. The surveillance drones will survey the entire LASPOTECH campus area and will extend to the entire Lagos State as soon as we start building it with 70 per cent local content.”
Meanwhile, during the Laspotech 101.9 FM was also officially launched to commence operations. The content creation and production process at the radio will be handled by students from the Department of Mass Communication InsideMainland gathered.
