It was amidst glitz and glam that one of Nigeria’s finest indigenous rappers, Remilekun Khalid Safaru better known as Reminisce held the maiden edition of his ‘Street Concert’ at the popular Ikeja City Mall, Alausa, yesterday, February 25, 2017.
The highly anticipated event featured the crème of the Nigerian entertainment industry with guests, fun seekers, revelers and other attendees having a fun filled night.
Originally scheduled to start by 4:00pm, the event didn’t commence until minutes after 5:00pm. This at first, didn’t go down well with attendees who thronged the event in numbers to have a feel of their favourite music stars and what they plan to dish out in form of entertainment for the night.
While kudos should go to Reminisce and his team for staging a one of kind event, below are some of the major takeouts from the event by the InsideMainland team
Mainlanders love to party
Mainlanders are party freaks! From Ikorodu, to Epe, Agege and other parts of Lagos, fun seekers turned out to enjoy fun moment at one of the biggest Mainland party of the year. Although the event started late from the scheduled time, the turnout was first low for the few persons who arrived the venue of the event.
Moments later after the first act mounted the stage to perform his repertoire of songs, residents in turn, filled the event venue and also managed to position themselves at strategic positions outside the confined area to have a feel of their entertainers whose main purpose of attending the event was to thrill guests.
Industry friends showed him love
Following the announcement of the Street Concert several weeks ago by Reminisce and his team, what attendees wanted to see was the guest list as well as that of the artists who would perform at the event. While Reminisce did justice to arrange a packed list of artistes which includes Lagos Mainland’s biggest act (no pun intended), Olamide, Falz, YCee, Vector, Eva, Baseone, Que Peller, among several others, quite a few of music lovers were still not convinced Reminisce could pull such heavyweights to his maiden concert.
However, the audience were proved wrong as popular music stars such as Olamide, Falz, Eva Alordiah, Harrysong, CDQ, Viktoh, Oladips, Baseone, Terry Apala, Davolee, Attitude, Seriki, Air Boy, Niniola, to mention a few took turns to thrill guests present.
The event took another turn when Olamide mounted the stage to perform from his number of chart topping singles to the delight of the audience. His performance was one of note as the crowd continued to chant his name even after he had exited the stage.
Other attendees at the event were faces such as DJ Lambo, DJ SPinall, DJ Enimoney, DJ Gunzee, Sensei Uche, Woli Arole, among others.
Sound was below par
One would have imagined an event of this nature which enjoyed rather a lot of positives before and during the event would go on successfully on a clean slate without any negatives. However, reverse was the case.
While the lighting, venue decoration as well as other side attractions were top notch, the sound almost ruined the fun.
During performances by music acts, guests and other attendees could hear loud resonations which affected the delivery of the entertainers. Also, the sound also went flat during the second performance by Reminisce and also during that of Eva Alordiah, Baseone and Terry Apala.
It is however pertinent that Reminisce and his team look into this during their event evaluation to enable them cover for such going forward.
Crowd control was poor
Reminisce walked into the event venue like a Gladiator. Same was for CDQ, Baseone, Viktoh, and others who received loud cheers from the guests upon their arrival at the event venue.
Security agents as well as bouncers whose main duty was to protect everyone present did justice to that at the confined area. However, things turned around so fast when popular act, Olamide arrived the scene in his G-Wagon. While only a few noticed him before he stepped out of his car, he was almost mobbed afterwards.
This also continued after he finished his performance and proceeded to exit the venue. Attendees who had waited patiently by his car (while some others posed for selfies with the car) didn’t allow him leave until he threw wads of naira notes in the air. This singular act caused apprehension in the crowded spot with persons injured in the struggle that ensued.
While all these happened, the security operatives couldn’t control the crowd with Olamide left alone to continue to throw wads of naira note till he exited the scene.
Ikeja City Mall can hold a decent event
After all, the Ikeja City Mall can stage a decent event that would involve the top dogs in the Nigerian entertainment industry. The parking lot of the mall which provided ample space for the event can stage a world class event without little or no hitch.
In times past, the location had staged events such as DJ Jimmy Jatt’s Jump Off, Soundcity White Party, among several other industry event.
The successful staging of the Street Concert by Reminisce at the venue has also contributed to considering the venue as one of the places to look out for when planning major events on the Lagos Mainland.
