As Lagos residents go about their daily activities, little do they know that robbers, kidnappers and other perpetrators of crimes are lurking around in search of their prey to pounce on. This habit by the criminals have continued to spike across parts of Lagos even considering the efforts by the government to rid the state of crime.
However, it is quite worrisome when such crimes are committed few meters to the seat of power in the State.
On Thursday, February 2, 2017, a resident, Ms. Toyin Ajoke was robbed and survived a kidnap attempt around 8:30pm along the usually busy Abiola Gardens, Alausa.
InsideMainland gathered that the victim was returning from the Berger end of Lagos enroute Ikeja. She however alighted at Otedola under bridge to enable her easy access to her destination.
While narrating her ordeal, Ms. Ajoke said “I was dropped under the bridge by the bus driver after I asked for directions. I asked a passerby who told me to wait for few minutes to join a bus going to Ikeja. Moments after I joined the bus, we were around Abiola Gardens when a man seated beside me pointed a gun to my head asking that I hand over my bag. I was shivering and didn’t know what to do.”
“We were two ladies inside the bus and all others were male. I handed over my bag after the bus parked by the roadaide and he took my phones, tablet and all the money I had on me. He also said that I will fetch his team good money because of the gadgets he found on me.
“I immediately started begging for my life and after a while, I was shoved out of the car while they sped off with the other lady still inside. While I was there shaking, a passerby came to my rescue and he told me that the location is a hotbed for armed robbery and kidnappings.”
When asked if she reported the case to the Police, the victim said a patrol team of RRS officers drove past the scene ten minutes after she was robbed and she, with the support of the passerby reported the case.
It should be noted that the Abiola Gardens is prone to illicit acts committed by criminals who take advantage of the dark to commit those acts.
It is imperative for the government to ensure that lives and properties of masses who ply the route are well secured.
