Ahead of the announcement for the much awaited election into Local Government offices by the Lagos State Electoral Commission (LASIEC), the commission has embarked on a tour across the 57 LGs and LCDAs in the State.
The visit by the LASIEC officials is aimed at assessing the state of the electoral body’s offices as well as determine if the place is conducive for electoral officers.
It would be noted that the continuous delay in the announcement and subsequent staging of the elections into council positions in Lagos State has drawn mixed feelings among residents. This recent tour however indicates that the much awaited elections may soon get a date.
The tour which involved the LASIEC chairman, Justice Ayotunde Phillips (retd) had members of the commission visiting Lagos Mainland LG offices which included Amuwo Odofin, Oto Awori, Iba, Ojo, and Oriade.
During the process, the officers inspected stores where ballot boxes as well as they physical state of the offices.
According to a member of the commission, Mr. Lateef Raji who was part of the “inspection visit to the offices would enable the commission to generate a comprehensive report that would help it make sound decisions, as well as ensure that the offices were conducive for the electoral officers of the commission.”
You would recall that in December 2016, LASIEC chairman, Justice Phillips (retd) disclosed that the commission would embark on an inspection tour to determine the level of readiness of its offices ahead of the council elections.
