In line with the desire to widen the pool of employees of labour in Ikorodu Division, Federal lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, Hon. Babajimi Benson’s empowerment initiative, #StartUpIkorodu graduated 80 successful participants of a three-month Accelerated Skills Acquisition Programme (ASAP) yesterday, Monday, November 21, 2016.
The empowerment initiative put together by iCARE Foundation which is funded by Hon. Babajimi Benson is aimed at creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurial growth and wealth creation in Ikorodu division by developing an Ecosystem that will aid wealth creation and give youths the opportunity to achieve their potentials.
The first set of graduands of the start-up scheme were chosen for the programme after passing an online examination from a pool of 1,500 applicants. The applicants were tutored y season facilitators on a three month skills acquisition programme which covers areas such as information technology, fish farming, computer graphics, computer programming, among others.
During the graduation ceremony, five start-ups were selected for planned funding by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) and Hon. Babajimi Benson’s iCARE Foundation.
The five start-ups are; Akada, an educational online marketplace where students, parents, schools, writers, and others can exchange their used books and also have access to e-books, texts, and past questions; Wofa, a start-up meant aimed at producing devices to switch power from electric generator to public power supply; Gbajumo, a marketplace for African fashion and styles; Taste Masters, a Samosa and Spring Rolls sheet producer; and Print ‘N’ More, a personalized clothing and accessories platform.
The event which held at the Regal Hall, Olu-Odo, Ikorodu was attended by notable personalities such as the House Minority Leader of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Akin Oyebode, among several others.
