A drainage channel on BH/BI Street in the Federal Low Cost Housing Estate, Ipaja has completely broken down and turned into a mini canal which is now a cause for worry to residents of the area. What is also shocking is that the spot has turned into a mini dump where passerby and other road users dump dirt.
When our correspondent visited the area, it was discovered that the drainage had given way due to erosion and spills water on the road when it rains continuously. Also, the area is popular for fish farming as youths in the neighborhood are investing into the business. For this reason, a proper drainage system would be a very important infrastructure in the environment.
Speaking with a fish farmer in the environment, he stated that the drainage has been in a bad condition even before he started his business and that it is a major route which leads to a river in the area. He noted that the drainage is not given required attention and that during the raining season, the drainage is in a worse state.
Another resident of the area also disclosed that cars carelessly slip into the drainage at night as drivers are not aware of the width of the drainage. When it rains, vehicles are susceptible to falling into the drainage.
The residents have however called on the government to come to their aid and also ensure the poor drainage is fixed to guide against any loss of life or property.
