Security, Health, Police Harassment Dominate Lawmakers’ Stakeholders Meeting In Mainland

The lawmakers representing the 40 constituencies in the Lagos State House of Assembly held a stakeholders meeting tagged as “Community/Neighbourhood Policing Starts With You” in their various constituencies on, Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

The stakeholders meeting which was initiated by the House Speaker, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa is the second edition after the maiden edition was held on Thursday, November, 12, 2015. It was created to allow the lawmakers give a report of their activities in governance to their immediate constituency.

During the meeting, residents of the constituencies had the opportunity to make demands on what is required and needed urgent attention from the government. Paramount on the things requiring attention in the constituencies are security of the environment, police harassment, proper health care and urgent attention, rehabilitation of roads, and implementation of the Lagos Water project across the state.

For residents of Lagos Mainland Constituency I, represented by Hon. Oladele Rufus Adekanye, their demands were centered around the following; rehabilitation of access roads across different parts of the constituency, provision of a Senior Secondary School in Otumara community, upgrade of a Health Center in the area, implementation of the water project, provision of a database for disabled beings in the constituency, and insurance plan for neighbourhood watch officers among others.


Their counterparts in Ikorodu Constituency I represented by the Lagos State House of Assembly Majority Leader, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade also shared their demands that require urgent government attention. The residents complained of the incessant cultist attacks on parts of the community, deplorable state of access roads in the community, community policing, and the neglect on some government owned schools in the community.

Speaking during his Constituency meeting which held at the Lagos Mainland Secretariat, Hon. Oladele Rufus Adekanye, revealed the importance of the meeting to community development adding that it allows lawmakers access to feel the pulse of members of the community. “This meeting is very important for the community and the lawmakers elected to represent the constituencies at the State level. This way, we get to give report of our activities in the House and also get to hear from the community members who are directly affected by our actions,” he said.

While commending the support from members of the constituency, Hon. Adekanye said that the House lawmakers are poised to initiate and sanction bills into laws that will be of benefit for residents across the state. “We represent the interest of the people and we will continue to bring forth bills that will be of benefit to everyone. Recently, the government just passed into law the Lagos Property Appropriation Law and the Neighbourhood Watch Law among other bills raised in the House. So, it’s a gradual process and we are determine to give our best at all times.”
