How Security Agencies Thwarted Planned Ikorodu Cultist Attack

Panic gripped the residents of Ikorodu and its environs yesterday, Monday, August 8, 2016 following a planned cultist attack on different parts of the community. The planned attack we gathered, was a reprisal attack from a cult group whose members were killed few weeks ago in the community.

Earlier yesterday, information about the planned attack tagged ‘Operation 8/8’surfaced on social media pages with residents advising their loved ones to stay off the streets or avoid night crawling.

While the tension grew, a combined security force of the local vigilante group, Onyabo, Police officers and the Nigerian Army stormed different parts of the community in droves to prevent the cultists from wreaking havoc.

Residents who spoke to InsideMainland disclosed that the “presence of the security officers at strategic positions in Ikorodu town saved the day. The officers mounted different points in Ikorodu while some were on patrol till late in the night.”

Another resident who craved anonymity said that “some officers conducted random checks on road users and other passer-by most especially those on motorbikes because that is the trademark of the cult guys.”

While InsideMainland cannot immediately reach the Provost Marshal of Onyabo, Mr. Olanrewaju Olabinjo for comments as at press time, he earlier said that “the genesis of the problems in Ikorodu is the land grabbers who brought miscreants parading themselves as cultists into the community.”
