Lagos’ First Bank FC thrash Crown FC of Ogbomosho in Agege

By Idris Aina

Nigerian National League side, First Bank FC of Lagos thrashed visiting side, Crown FC of Ogbomosho 2 nil in a thrilling encounter played today, Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos.

The home side, rooted to the bottom of the league standings before the start of the game took the game to the visiting side by coming off the blocks early in the game. Tricky forward, Jide Apena drew a safe from the away goal keeper who went down fast enough to prevent the attacker’s strong drive.

Crown FC grew into the encounter taking the game to the home side. The away team dictated the pace of the game holding on to possession for a long duration of the half.

First Bank FC however opened scoring in the 24th minute of the match through a well taken free kick from Sanni Lateef. The goal keeper was rooted to the spot and couldn’t prevent the ball from scoring. The first half ended in favour of the home side as they took control of the match after scoring the goal.

The home side took the encounter beyond the reach of the visitors in the second half of the match when Saka Toafeek was fouled by a Crown FC defender following a clumsy challenge. The resulting spot kick was well converted by Waheed Adebayo who drilled his shot into the top corner.

The match ended 2 nil in favour of the home side who are still rooted to the bottom of the log with 5 matches left to play.
