LASG Commences Dredging Of The Filthy Alapere Canal

As part of the plans to forestall flooding in different parts of the State, the Lagos State Government led by Akinwunmi Ambode has commenced efforts to dredge the Alapere Canal to prevent obstruction and ensure free flow in the area.

The dredging of the canal, which is few meters away from the Alapere Low Cost Housing Estate was last dredged four years ago according to residents of the area. However, a team of government officials commenced work on the site yesterday, August 1, 2016, to the relief of residents of the area.

According to a resident identified Mr. Lucky, the area was almost flooded few weeks ago due to heavy rainfall. “This place was almost flooded three weeks ago due to heavy rain. The CDA Group met and decided to look for a way out to ensure safety of residents in the area.”

He later added that it is a thing of joy to see dredging activities going on at the canal which has brought relief to residents of Onanuga Street, a place adjacent the canal.

In a chat with one of the officers working on the site, he told InsideMailand that the team had worked on canal channels in places such as Ikorodu, Ajegunle Boundary, 7UP in Alausa and Alafia canal channel linking Coker Aguda earlier in the year.
