Lagos State seeks Community media as a vehicle for grassroot development

As an initiative to hasten development at the grassroots level, especially on the 114roads flag off project, the Lagos state government has reiterated its commitment to bring development to the rural communities across the 57 Local Council Development Areas through mutual relationship with community media.‎‎‎

At a recent press briefing ‎held at the Ministry of Local Government and community affairs Alausa Ikeja, Lagos, the Special Adviser to the Governor on communications and communities, Hon Kehinde Bamigbetan said Gov. Ambode is trying to create a community media that will help the grassroot development through their news reportage.

This forum is created to enhance information flow between the Lagos State government and the community media for the growth of the communities’. ‎

At the 3rd media meeting, known as a synergy for the growth of 57 LCDAs in Lagos State, both journalists and editors of Community Newspapers expressed the fundamental needs of the people and their community’s social vices that need the government attention.

The participants also demanded that information units at the local government levels needs to be strengthened for better community/media relations. They also suggested that a forum should be organised by the office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communication to sensitise the Executive Secretaries on the need to embrace community media.

Hon. Bamgbetan promised to work on it. He also disclosed that the construction of 114 new roads across the 57 council areas of the state will commence soon. He also said the Lagos State wealth creation fund for Small Scale Businesses (interest rate of 1%) will soon materialise.
