The authorities of LAMATA has announced its plan to completely phase out the sale of paper tickets and adopt an E-payment solution which will be known as E-purse card. This is the first time LAMATA would be deploying such system on the popular BRT buses.
The E-Purse card which works like the Oyster Cards used in London will be adopted in the payment of fare on its newly acquired air-conditioned BRT buses plying the Ikorodu Town – Mile 12 – Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) route.
Passengers are required to simply tap the card on a device as they enter the bus and tap again on reaching their destination as they exit the bus.
According to the Managing Director of LAMATA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, the paper ticketing system gives room for fraud, fake tickets, littering of used tickets and inadequate data collection. He also said it is expected to put an end to frequent quarrels between passengers and ticket vendors over cash change.
The new air conditioned buses also come with other devices like the digital text display, 14 inch LCD Monitor and red buttons placed strategically as buzzers to indicate bus stops and a space for the physically challenged.
