Kosofe residents ask for Anthony overhead bridge, roads, Marine Police during meet with Lawmaker

As part of its efforts to ensure that residents of Lagos state are carried along in the workings and decision making in the state, the Lagos State House of Assembly organised a first of its kind constituency stake holders meeting on Tuesday 10th November, 2015 with the theme; “Towards a Better Constituency Engagement” which held simultaneously in the 40 constituencies of the state and Kosofe constituency (I) was not left out as its representative, Hon. Bayo Oshinowo held a stakeholders meeting with the people of his constituency at Mende town hall, Mende Maryland.

Top of the list of issues raised by constituents worthy of note for Hon. Oshinowo during the interactive session were; rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads across the constituency, establishment of more primary health centre and equipping it, overhead bridge at Anthony, construction of link roads to link the communities in the constituency, construction of ferry jetty at Oworonshoki, building of markets so as to take traders off the roads and provision of more primary and secondary schools.

Hon. Oshinowo in his response promised the constituents of prompt action on all their request and recommendations while urging others who are yet to submit their memoranda to please do as desk officers will be available to receive them on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th of November 2015.

The stakeholders meeting had in attendance the state governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode ably represented by the permanent secretary, ministry of agriculture, Dr. Yakubu Olajide, Special Adviser to the governor on food security, Alhaji Okanlawon, the executive secretary, Kosofe LG Hon. Ketiku, Chairman Kosofe CDC, Royal fathers, representative of various sociocultural groups and residents from all the communities in the constituency.

In his welcome address the executive Secretary of Kosofe local government, Hon. Ketiku thanked the Lagos State House of Assembly for organising the stakeholders meeting and enjoined all to see it as an opportunity to gather, strategize and chart a way forward while facilitating a working synergy between constituents and elected representative. He conclude his speech by pointing out an issue that is worthy of note for Hon. Oshinowo which is for government to provide a Marine Police unit on the waterways of Oworonshoki in order to curb crime within the constituency.

Meanwhile in his key note address, Hon. Oshinowo describe the stakeholders meeting as a forum aim at harnessing issues that will influence the 2016 budget makeup and also to deepen democratic culture and participatory governance. He told the constituents that the Lagos state house of assembly is theirs and that there can never a meaningful progress by the house if it does not consult the constituents, thus the more reason why all the 40 representatives in the State house of assembly are holding the stakeholders meeting across the state. He further stated that the stakeholder meeting is convened in order to access the level of development and the need of the people.

Consequently he urge the constituents to feel free to express their opinions and views as it will help government in forming policies, enhance collaborative effort and make Lagos the Lagos of the dream of all.
