Lagos State is celebrated as Africa’s emerging mega city. This reputation has been further boosted by the level of infrastructural development in the main business districts. However, the reputation fades as one approach some outskirt residential districts in Lagos.
For the residents of Odogunyan, an outskirt of Ikorodu in Lagos, the Lagos Mega City rhetoric is a mere dream. Their vicinity is epitome of government neglect. This is made even worse during rainfalls.
According to residents, “we are always scared of rainfall here. Anytime it rains, everyone starts feeling as if the world is about to come to an end”.
