In the aftermath of the boat accident which claimed one life with 19 others injured at the Oworonshoki end of Lagos Mainland, more revelations has emerged about the incident.
InsideMainland gathered that the incident occurred at about 10:00 am when a boat conveying 21 passengers, capsized in the area.
An eyewitness quickly reported the incident to OC Marine Police who immediately deployed 7 boats to the scene, InsideMainland learnt.
In addition, the incident was brought to the attention of the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) whose helicopters got the coordinates and mobilized to the scene.
The mobilization by the RRS officers led to the quick rescue of 19 passengers and recovery of the corpse of a woman passenger whose husband, fortunately, was rescued in the incident.
Meanwhile, Police have arrested the conductor of the capsized boat after its driver abandoned the passengers and fled from the scene of the incident.
Also, the rescued passengers along with the conductor of the capsized boat have been taken to the Marine Police Office in Keffi, Obalende, Lagos. The capsized boat has equally been recovered and taken to Marine Police yard while the corpse of the dead passenger has been deposited in the mortuary.
Speaking on incident, the Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, has warned commercial boat operators in the state not to overload their boats to avoid mishaps. He also urged the operators to always ensure they provide life jacket for their passengers.
