Lagos CP appeals for support from student union leaders to fight cultism

Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, has appealed for support from student union leaders across the state to enable the Command end the menace of cultism in Lagos.

The CP made this appeal over the weekend at the Command headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos Mainland when he hosted representatives of all student unions in tertiary institutions in the state.

Speaking during the interactive session, the CP said it is very important to seek for partnership with various student union governments as they have vast grassroots connections to help solve the problem which has become endemic in the state.

“I invited you here today to seek for your support, cooperation, and partnership. Since I became the commissioner of Police, I have kicked the ground running from one community town-hall meeting to the other trying to tell the people my policing plan for the Lagos,” he said.

The Police chief continued saying “because you occupied very strategic position in your various schools and of cause your wealth of experience running your various student union governments, I am sure we can partner together to put a halt to this scourge facing the communities in the state.

“We have responsible student union leaders, young people who head various groups in the colleges all over the state. We check fact that most of them are instrumental to bringing down the rate of cultism in their various institutions.

“If you all afford yourself to partner with the police you can at least help us or guide us on how we can equally bring down the issue of cultism in the neighbourhood around the schools.”

He further said, “The intelligence at his disposal is that there are people who called themselves students but never graduated from schools, every year, they are there but they are busy recruiting the young ones. We need to work together and identify those groups of people.”

The colleges in attendance were Lagos State University, University of Lagos, Yaba College of Technology, Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Caleb University, Federal College of Education (Technical), Lagos State Polytechnic, Ronik Polytechnic, among others
