Hilarious: Police arrests masquerades for robbery in Agege – WATCH VIDEO

Like a scene from a Nollywood movie, residents of Elere area in Agege were left bewildered after security operatives apprehended masquerades in the area yesterday, Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

The arrest, InsideMainland gathered was as a result of breach of peace and robbery by the masquerades in the community.

InsideMainland learnt that the activities of the masquerades did not have the approval of the Olu of Agege, Oba Kamilu Isiba and other traditionalists in the community.

The newly appointed Police Commissioner in Lagos, Mr. Imohimi Edgal while parading the suspects said they were arrested following complaints of robbery and breach of peace from residents.

“At about 4:00pm, we got complaints that some unknown persons had come out in their masquerade attires and following them were miscreants who were using the opportunity to rob innocent and law abiding people of Elere area, Agege,” the CP said.

“I immediately sent out a team of Policemen who arrested these masquerades and their handler who claims to be the owner of the masquerades. Within Elere, Agege, we have received a lot of reports following the arrest that these rogue masquerades come out and they have no approval or authority of the traditional institution and no particular festival is being celebrated so they have no reason to be out.

“They use it plain and simply to rob innocent people and we have warned repeatedly that this Command will not tolerate such act of breakdown of law and order,” CP Edgal added.

Meanwhile, the arrest has generated various reactions on social media.

According to Romeao Iyabosa “the Nigeria police are always useless. I don’t think they even know their jobs these days.”

Augustine Idoma said that “I was embarrassed, intimidated and beaten some years back by the so call Egungun along Addo Langbasa Road, Ajah in Lagos. These idiots need to be properly dealt for “cultural abuse and criminality.”
