Following the suspension of the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Muiz Banire by the Mushin – Lagos chapter of the party, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party has described the process as invalid.
In statement signed by its National Publicity Secretariat, Bolaji Abdullahi, which was obtained by InsideMainland, the party said the Mushin chapter of the party wielded a power it does not possess, hence, a nullification of the entire process.
“We wish to state categorically that the purported suspension is a nullity as the local chapter of the Party does not have such powers to suspend a national officer. According to the Party’s constitution, such powers reside with the National Executive Committee NEC of the Party”, the APC stated.
The Party further advised that whatever issues there might be, its structure and constitution provide ample avenues for redress and dispute resolution.
“If the local chapter is unable to achieve a resolution, the NWC can and will wade in the matter to achieve amicable settlement,” the party said.
Recall that Dr. Banire was suspended by the local chapter of the party for alleged anti-party activities. The decision on the suspension was reached following the conclusion of a Ward C meeting which the legal luminary was a member after the just concluded Lagos council elections.
