As part of efforts to fight malaria scourge in Lagos and also mark this year’s World Malaria Day, Ikeja Electric Distribution Company, partnered with one of Nigeria’s leading Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO), Hygeia, to fight malaria some communities in Lagos State.
During the event with the theme ‘End Malaria for Good’, residents were handed treated mosquito nets in several communities in Lagos.
The communities which benefited immensely from the initiative included; Ikorodu, Oshodi-isolo, Ilaje-Bariga, Lambe-Akute, Oke Agbo-Ikorodu, Aguda-Ogba, and Akowonjo.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Felix Ofulue, Head Corporate Communications, Ikeja Electric, said “Malaria has a devastating socio-economic impact in the country and all efforts must be intensified by the government and corporate organizations to eradicate the disease. To this end, we are committed to sensitising the communities on the prevention and treatment of the infectious disease caused by the malaria parasite.”
In addition to mark the day, malaria tests were conducted for residents of the various communities and anti-malaria drugs were distributed to people who tested positive to malaria parasite.
There was also an enlightenment session on the proper way to use the insecticide treated nets for some of the persons who were yet to understand how to use them
