Osita Emmanuel a commercial tricycle rider (Keke Marwa) conspired with his gang to defraud an 81-year-old passenger to the tune of N27 million. They deceived her into believing they can produce local and foreign currencies from pieces of papers by dipping them into mercury.
Osita and his gang also made the victim Mrs Veronica Okonkwo to part with the sum of N120, 000 as a registration fee with the mercury company that will purchase the chemical. Consequently she made to sell her property in Festac Town Lagos for N27 million and the proceeds was shared by Osita and his gang.
The keke operator was apprehended by EFCC, following a petition from a legal practitioner on behalf of the 81 year old. Osita who pleaded guilty to this offence promised to return the money and the property.
In resuming hearing on Monday June 22nd, 2015 at the Ikeja High Court sitting, Justice Lawal Akapo sentenced Osita to three years imprisonment without an option of fine and ensures that he returns the money and property.
